Enabling the FE Recruitment chapter in the Skills For Jobs FE White Paper

03 Feb 2021

The Skill for Jobs FE White Paper was launched in January 2021 by Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson.

Skills for Jobs identifies five key areas for an FE system that meets the country’s skills needs:

  1. Putting employers at the heart of post-16 skills
  2. Providing the advanced technical and higher technical skills the nation needs
  3. A Flexible Lifetime Skills Guarantee
  4. Responsive providers, supported by more effective accountability and funding
  5. Supporting outstanding teaching

This article is focussing in on chapter five around supporting outstanding teaching and importantly the recruitment drive for FE teachers, trainers, lecturers and FE practitioners.

  • The Skills For Jobs White Paper mentions launching a nationwide recruitment campaign to get more talented individuals to teach in further education and investing in high quality professional development including a new Workforce Industry Exchange Programme.

David Russell, Chief Executive of the Education and Training Foundation (ETF), wrote a really interesting article for our news publication (www.fenews.co.uk) titled: The White Paper is evolutionary not revolutionary – which is good news for FE

What is particularly interesting about David's article highlights the often overlooked national recruitment campaign for FE teachers with an advice service that builds on the FE Advice website and helpline the ETF has run since 2013 and the training and development part of the White Paper and how ETF are supporting this.

Check out David's article here for the full info, we wanted to point you towards his article as we thought this was particularly interesting to our mainly delivery and operational focus of our audience on FE Careers.
